Social care

The term ′social care′ describes the care of a person, of any age, which meets their common human needs and gives them a certain quality of life. This descriptive term, first used in the 1970′s, describes all types of long term care for people that does not involve hospitalisation or incarceration.

Personal Social Services funds are allocated to a sector of the population such as older people, children & families, people with either learning or physical disabilities, mentally ill adults or asylum seekers. Funds can also be allocated by the place, and/or means of care, such as Day & Domiciliary Care or Residential Provision.

More than two thirds of the 161 million hours of elderly homecare delivered through local authorities and social service departments each year are outsourced to the independent sector.

Currently the majority of care our businesses deliver provides support to older people living in their own homes. This enables them to remain as independent as possible in order to live, as fully as possible, the life of their choosing. We also seek to improve the quality of life for service users with learning disabilities through specialist brands such as New Horizons.
